Quietly Between is a collection of poetry and photography from Megan Kaminski, Brad Vogler, Lori Anderson Moseman, and Sarah Green. Pairing photographs with poems, each poet inhabits a place. The book unfolds as a layered landscape traversing east to west, from Lawrence, KS, to Joshua Tree, CA.
From March 2020 to November 30, 2023, my partner and I walked our dogs along the shores of Utah Lake around 6:45 in the morning. It was a ritual of gratitude. As we walked, I took snapshots of water, land and light—every dawn is new amid this mega drought.
In March 2021, my partner and I wandered Lick Wash in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. We wound our way through a narrow canyon of cross-bedded Navajo sandstone in awe of how windblown sand dunes had then become rock walls.
My collages juxtapose a place I visit daily with one I have experienced once in my life—an ancient lake is jammed against an ancient desert. Their accompanying poems speak to an emotional landscape during three years of grief.
